Generally in the fall or spring, but sometimes, just because I feel its necessary, I cleanse. Now let’s get something straight! I don’t cleanse for weight loss purposes or to fit into a sexy dress for a party. I do so to give my body a much needed break. A good cleanse removes acidic and inflammatory foods and allows your body to focus on healing and detoxifying itself naturally. This week I chose to do a juice cleanse, which consisted of mostly green juice. I won’t sugar coat it, it is pretty intense and not something I recommend for a beginner! However, because I have been eating clean and cleansing for many years now. I rarely experience any negative side effects such as headaches, mood swings, breakouts etc. which are often termed a “healing crisis” and can be a normal part of the cleansing process.
That being said. No matter who you are or what type of cleanse you have done, it’s important to “gently” come off the cleanse. That’s what this post is all about!! Although you may be tempted to have a massive breakfast on the morning after you complete your cleanse (I know I was craving something I could dig my teeth into!) its important to take it slowly and focus on easily digestible foods.
My Green Vitality Smoothie is the perfect solution!! I LOVE this smoothie! It is packed full of nutrients, antioxidants, alkalizing greens, good fats, raw vegan protein and fresh fruit! So without further ado….
2 scoops of SunWarrior Raw Vanilla Protein Powder
1 small slightly under-ripe banana
2 large organic kale leaves-stem removed
1 handful of organic cilantro
1.5 cups of filtered water
2 organic celery stalks
2 tablespoons of hemp hearts
1 organic lemon (peeled)
2 handfuls of ice
Throw all of that whole food goodness into a high-powered blender (I used my Vitamix) and 30 secs later you have 2 servings of the yummiest green smoothie you’ve ever had!!
