Food alone, is not always enough.
There is no denying we live in a fast-paced world. For some of us, it's difficult to stop long enough to eat at all, and what we do put in our mouths is often an afterthought. The simple fact is that almost all of us do not eat enough fruits and vegetables. We should be eating between 9-13 servings (1/2 cup = 1 serving) of fruits and vegetables a day to preserve our health and help prevent degenerative disease.
Even those of us that do somehow manage to consistently eat well may still be lacking in some key nutrients. There are several reasons for this including: soil depletion, food processing, pesticides and herbicides, the toxicity levels of many fish populations, as well as the amount of time between when the food is harvested and how long it takes to appear on the grocery store shelves. Our food supply is not "what it used to be" and studies have shown that the vitamin and mineral content of many fruits and vegetables is substantially lower then it was 40 years ago. Additionally, our bodies require more support than ever because of our increased exposure to stress and various forms of pollution.
Supplements are more than just vitamins. We must take in a full spectrum of nutrients as they exist in nature to really reap the benefits that we would receive from eating whole food.
No supplement will ever take the place of eating a clean, whole food diet. Eating whole foods is proven to be the optimal solution for building a solid foundation for long-term good health. However, the right supplements can bridge the gap between what we eat and what we should be eating.
My approach is to recommend supplements that work with your personalized wellness program to support your body and bring it back into balance. I believe that supplements are an important part of the journey to optimal health.
I only recommend professional quality products that I know and trust.
